2007 Trends in UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles)

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles or UAVs have proved themselves worth their weight in gold in the military. Today Unmanned Aerial Vehicles can be flown tele-robotically and controlled from a distance by a pilot on the ground. Some UAVs can fly completely autonomously once launched. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles make a perfect surveillance tools in the modern net centric battle space. With many high-tech electronic sensors they can pick up the enemy via infrared on a pitch-black night.

There have been instances where UAVs have fired upon enemy targets using hellfire missiles and destroy the target. There have been situations where the ground control link was lost on a tele-robotically flown UAV and the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle returned its self to the airport and landed safely. The technology advances in unmanned robotic vehicles has come a long way in the last decade and this trend will continue.

What will the future of UAVs bring? Well, we are witnessing the miniaturization of UAVs as the sensors and electronics get smaller and more robust. Currently the United States military is using Micro Air Vehicles or MAVs that are the size of a small bird. Current technology trends predict that the top universities in the United States will perfect insect size MAVs. Meanwhile The Air Force Research Laboratory has put out a roadmap calling for unmanned fighter aircraft and attack aircraft in the near future. We can also expect cargo aircraft UAVs.

With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence it appears that the fighter pilot's days are numbered and soon human pilots will no longer rule the skies. You can also expect transfer technologies to be handed down into many commercial applications. I hope you will enjoy this book and discussion of all these topics and more, as we look at the future of UAVs for both the military and private sector.

2007 Trends in Aviation Technologies

The Future of Aviation Technology is accelerating like never before and is no cleared for take-off into a whole new paradigm of innovation, performance and electronic capability. Very soon most military aircraft will be flying themselves autonomously and interact with human piloted aircraft and air-traffic control or battlespace command and control systems.

Indeed all this technology is also slowly making its way into the non-military government agencies and quasi government agencies with UAVs Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. We are seeing UAVs used for weather, pollution monitoring, surveillance, forestry, FEMA, policing, search and rescue and even real estate photography. In the private sector with commercial use we will soon see self-flying airliners, shuttle services and air taxis. The first Airliner Flight was already conducted in fact.

The FAA along with NASA is developing super realistic Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Simulators for air traffic controllers, which hook up with airliner simulators all playing in real time in the virtual world. Of course with the advent of zero-zero visibility airline pilots and corporate jets are now about to land without ever seeing the actual runway or looking at an infrared version of it.

If all this sounds exciting that’s great, but in reality this is only the tip of the iceberg. In fact some of the greatest achievement in aviation are nearly upon us with such technologies as lighter materials with carbon nano-tubes, blended wing-bodied aircraft, flying cars, hypersonic flight, levitation, super computer aerodynamic flow modeling and new propulsion technologies. We truly are at the dawn of a new era in aviation innovation.

I appreciate your interest in this subject, as I have a passion for flying that started as a boy. Please be thinking here and consider the implications of the future of aviation technologies and innovations. Perhaps this article is of interest to propel thought in 2007?

Save Big Bucks on Airfare

You can save money on your airfare if you know where to look and how to shop. Seat prices vary, so much so that if you were to ask your fellow passengers what they paid for their tickets you could see price differences ranging from 10-75%! To get the biggest discounts requires a bit of savvy on your part. Are you ready to find out how you can save? If so, read on and we’ll explore several money saving options in vogue today.

Fly Off Peak – The cheapest fares can be had on off peak travel days which are from Tuesday to Thursday and on Saturday. Fly on certain holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas and you may receive an especially good deal. Also, fly on September 11th and the fares are cheap too as not many folks want to fly on the anniversary of the U.S. terrorist attacks.

Shop Online – Many airlines want you to shop online instead of tying up their people resources by calling in for a ticket. As a reward for your online shopping, you can find tickets discounted by 5-10% off of regular fare prices.

Show Some Flexibility – Unless you absolutely must fly on a certain day, if you show some flexibility you can save a bundle. Fly by fare amount, not date and time and you’ll dig up the best deals going.

Shop the Travel Sites – Expedia, Travelocity, Priceline, and others list the best prices going. Compare prices between the different carriers and consider flying to a smaller airport {Midway v. O’Hare} to turn up the best deals.

Go Regional – Regional carriers such as Chautauqua, Comair, and Colgan often have the lowest fares available. Sometimes their flights are tied in with a major airline such as Delta so you can get airline miles too.

Go Discount Carriers – Southwest, JetBlue, easyJet, Air Berlin, USA3000, AirTran, Ryanair, and others offer airfare prices that are typically lower than the competition. In Europe, price wars are rampant and you could find that you can fly for pennies on the dollar or pence on the pound!

Package Deals – If you need a rental car and a hotel, shop for a package deal that includes those two items with your airfare. Sometimes the overall package deal can bring to you the best savings.

While not as common, you can always walk up to the airline’s window, show your i.d., and ask for their best rate on the spot for their next flight. Westjet and Virgin Atlantic are two airlines that have offered standby fares in the past.

Tips and Advice for Long Flights

Everyone, at one point or the other, starts disliking flights, when we were kids it was so much fun, but now it looks like the worst few hours we can spend, and on long flights it is almost a catastrophic, spending hours in that very small space, and without much free movement or quality breathing air can make some people really edgy. However there are a few things that you can do to try and combat these long hour flights, and the boredom that comes with them, as well as take care of yourself while flying, here are a few things we thought can help.

Before the Flight

Pack early! Prepare everything days before your flight. Determine early the things you should place into your hand carry. To avoid trouble at the airport and eventually may cause you the flight, do not bring any sharp objects.

Bring personal things you need on-flight such as all your toiletries and medications. Bring toothbrush and toothpaste. Bring inflatable headrest to keep your head wilting from your seat once you decide to go to sleep.

Bring sweaters and long trousers since most planes have cold air-conditioning.

Bring earplugs and sleep mask (or something you can place over your eyes).

Get enough rest. Sleep early. If you are flying for the first time, do not get too excited and excuse yourself from resting a day before the flight.

Leave early from your house. Airlines would normally ask you to arrive 2 hours before the flight. This will give you enough time to find your terminal, check in, and leave your luggage. Passport, airport check, and security check may take too long. Make use of the time to get through all these procedure.

Also, international flights are often overbooked so it is hard to get into the next flight once you missed your original flight. Listen to announcements intently and look for computer monitors. There are instances wherein flight times and gate assignments change especially at large and busy airports.

Finding Cheap Flights within Europe

Finding budget airlines within Europe is not a difficult task these days. However, a few years ago people were of the opinion that traveling by air within Europe is near to impossible because it’s too much expensive. They usually considered alternatives such as traveling by train or rented cars so that they could save some money for shopping and other activities. Let’s find out how you can find cheap airfare within Europe.

Even if going for last-minute reservations it is recommended that you book two weeks before the flight. Advice on Finding Cheap Airfare

There are many ways to find cheap airfares but sometimes you are not sure how to narrow down your choices and select the right deal. Cheap airfare can be found for different circumstances, such as peak holiday seasons, weekends and other ways like courier travel if you are traveling alone and want to explore newer cities. This article will provide you with some tips to find cheap airfare for the situation you are in.

The first way to find cheap airfare is to book on an already overbooked flight. If you have ample time on your hands, arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before the flight and get in the line. You can negotiate with the airline worker at desk for the urgency of your travel. Tell them that you want the next flight to your destination location. They will try to adjust you with the next flight with some vouchers for waiting for so long. Sometimes the vouchers also include getting a last-minute reservation discount offer. Of course this kind of tactic can only be applied if you are traveling alone. Taking a whole family with you won’t look that much suitable and you might also end up coming back to wait for a flight many hours ahead. So be careful before trying this out. Sometimes you can also manage to get free flights if you are lucky enough and have a lot of patience. But if you are determined to fly cheap, then time and other things will not be a hurdle for you.

The second tactic is to look for special offers made by certain airlines on their websites. You might not be able to benefit from these offers if you buy your ticket directly from the airport. Sometimes these discount offers are meant for the promotion of a website or online airfare business, but whatever the reason don’t forget to at least check out some of these websites for the special deals and packages they have to offer. These packages include last-minute reservations and hotel and car packages etc. Remember that these offers are for limited time only, so if you come across a package that suits your needs don’t hesitate to buy it right away.

Sometimes choosing a multi-stop flight has a major advantage on choosing a direct flight. You might find it difficult to change airports or flights, but this has proven to be a very useful way of finding cheap airfares. Try to book a seat for the nearest location to your destination and after arriving there ask for a last-minute reservation. This way you will be able to save a lot of dollars. Also try to book on weekdays instead of weekends. Exploring online will give you an insight into how airlines determine their airfare rates for peak seasons and peak times. Sometimes when they are trying to sell out all tickets of a flight, they offer the last seats at very low prices just to have them sold off. You can get in contact with a consolidator and he will contact you back whenever a cheap flight is available that matches your flight schedule.

2007 Thoughts on Stating an Aircraft Cleaning Service

It has often been said in the General Aviation Industry that aviation is a great place to spend money but not a very good place to try to make money. Ask any FBO Fixed Based Operator and they will tell you the millions of dollars they have spent developing their business and how the cash flow simply is not steady enough to justify the investment. Not to mention the fact that the general aviation industry is quite cyclical. Even so, not all small businesses in general aviation are so difficult or unprofitable.

In this article I wish to discuss starting a Mobile Aircraft Cleaning Company and how you can get into the business relatively inexpensively and have a much better chance of making a profit. I started my first aircraft washing services at age 12 and expanded my customer base to multi airports over a 5-year period. About 20 years later I began to franchise The Aircraft Wash Guys as part of our washing companies to many states. Over the years we were able to make our business model very efficient and thus this will be one of our primary focuses in this concept.

EPA and NPDES Permitting must be discussed if you are considering this type of business, as that is a major consideration. Collection of waste wash water and proper disposal for treatment is paramount. Safety is a very important part of aircraft cleaning too. Of course without customers your business will never get off the ground so we concentrate on marketing, branding, advertising, direct mail, public relations, publicity and customer service. You see having been in the Aircraft Cleaning Business for so long I realize how important these things are. Equipment specifications, techniques and procedures will also be a consideration for you to research.

I appreciate you reading my article and hope this information helps your business get clearance for takeoff. Maybe aircraft washing might be a good business for you to start? Perhaps this article is of interest to propel thought in 2007?
