Becoming a Festival Vendor

If you agree that nothing could be better than being outside, making new friends, and making some money as your own boss then you are ready to become a festival vendor. Becoming a festival vendor can be easy or difficult; it really depends on the festival you want to sell your wares at. Below are some useful tips on how to get your foot in the festival door. There are many different ways to start out as a festival vendor. If you can’t get in the first time around, then check out some of these additional hints to help you figure out a way.

Join Fairs And Festival Events

If you’ve been to a few festivals, flea markets, or craft show and want in on the action then you’ll have to get busy – early. That’s right, most of the festival vendors you see at your local festivals have signed up for their spot up to a year in advance. Some festivals are more competitive than others. If you have some prior experience being a festival vendor, but you’d like to join a well-known or traveling festival than you know how hard it can be to get a coveted space to sell your wares.

Need to Pay Anything to become Festival Vendor?

The first thing to do no matter what festival you want to be a festival vendor at is to find out who is in charge. Try to speak directly with them about signing up. If you are lucky you will just need to pay up front to reserve your spot and then show up on the first day of the festival. Sometimes you won’t have to sign up until the day of the festival, but most will require you to put down a deposit ahead of time. This means that even if you are signing up for a hot festival a year in advance you still might need to lay down a hefty deposit now. This also means that if you can’t make it at the last minute it you will probably lose your entire deposit. Unfortunately, this is just how things go in the festival circuit and if you want to become a festival vendor you will have to shell out some cash before you’ve made a penny.

Things to know in Fairs and Festival Events

If you have chosen to become a festival vendor at a more competitive show and there are no available spots left, then you can try a few things. You can always ask to share a space with an established vendor. This is an especially good move for a festival vendor that has a small set up or someone just starting out. If the booth fees are high, another festival vendor might be happy to let you set up inside their booth. Ask whoever is in charge or approach a friendly festival vendor yourself. You can also see if there are any cancellations that day or the day before. This can be a real pain since you have no guarantee, but things happen and this could get you in. Negotiating with another festival vendor to hold their spot for them if they need to be away for a day or two is another way to get in on a temporary basis. If you want to be a festival vendor, then you are surely a creative type, so use those skills and figure out a way to get in there.

How to perform well in Festival Events?

The more experience you have as a festival vendor, the easier it becomes to get a space or a better one. Like almost anything in life, who you know matters. Being connected with the organizers and other festival vendors can help you out a lot when it comes to getting a prime space at a festival. This does not mean you need to try to get the management’s attention every chance you can. In fact what it means, is try to be a festival vendor who is easy to get along with and pays attention to the people running the show. It may sounds simple, but you will see many festival vendors put up quite a fuss when it comes to their space or a variety of things. Be the kind of festival vendor that people want at their festival. People will take note of this and this it will help ensure you a place at the festival or make sure that the your favorite space is vacant when you arrive.

A Journey Through Cultural India

Are you considering India as the destination of your next wild adventure? Below you'll find an account from a fellow traveler of the amazing views and experiences to be had in this breathtaking, culture filled land.

Long haul vacations have become commonplace today as more of us seek out exotic destinations. There is nothing more fascinating than discovering the hidden wonders India has to offer. It is a country of contrast, with wonderful scenery, top class accommodation and ancient temples. India really offers the best of both worlds, you can visit the amazing sites and experience the tourist culture on offer, and just five minutes down the road you can stumble upon true third world conditions where for some, every day is a struggle to survive. Visiting these parts of India can be very humbling experience, to have the opportunity to see how a hidden majority of the population lives, and even to inspire oneself to take the steps to giving something back to these communities in need.

By far the most attractive tourist destination is the state of Goa in the west. It is a particular favorite amongst the younger generation, having gained a reputation for its beach lifestyle and dance parties. There are several beaches to choose from and the annual carnival is the highlight of the year. This region is a former Portuguese colony and much of the colonial architecture remains. The main religions are Hinduism and Roman Catholicism as is evident by the many breathtaking church and temple tours on offer. While every part of India offers a unique experience, Goa has been rated one of the most popular tourist destinations, offering a world away from the hectic, culture packed cities of India, a chance to relax and unwind, and to make the most of the beautiful weather, beaches, and take full advantage of the tourist comforts on offer.

Southern India is another tourism hot spot offering a relaxed surrounding as you take in the culture, the ancient temples, and the spectacular tropical forests and beaches. There are also a number of vibrant cities and two National Parks. The regional cuisine is known as an outstanding contribution to Indian food. Many travelers make it a point to go through Tamil Nadu to see the hill stations, noted for their scenic locations. There is wonderful architecture, temples and cultural traditions.

Tamil Nadu contains the city of Madurai, an unforgettable place on any agenda for India travel. The city is full of temples, the most famous one being the Meenakshi Temple. Madurai also contains the Gandhi Museum, where his robes are displayed and there are workshops, a store selling fabrics woven on a hand loom and a bookstore containing spiritual publications.

Where-ever you decide to travel in India, One aspect of your trip that you will notice is how welcoming the locals are. Despite their sometimes extreme-poverty, you will always find a smiling, generous face.

The people are a contributing factor in making India such a spiritual place to visit, along with the breathtaking sights and rich cultural history held by the buildings and landmarks. The state of Bihar contains the village of Bodhgaya, which is a sacred place, cherished by Buddhists. Buddhists travel here on pilgrimages from all over the world to see the famous Mahabodhi Temple. The most sacred feature is the descendant of the Bodhi tree that the Buddha sat under and gained his enlightenment.

Obviously the most well-known landmark in India is the Taj Mahal, an incredibly beautiful structure of white marble, built in the Islamic style in the 17th century. Known as one of the seven wonders of the world, it is located in Agra in Uttar Pradesh. Its origins are pure romance as a Mughal emperor built it as a tribute to his wife, whom he adored. The mosque, ornamental gardens and mausoleum are simply stunning and more than live up to its reputation.

Traveling on a Budget

I recently made a trip from Buffalo to Toronto to attend a convention. I made it a goal to spend as little as possible on this trip. However, I still wanted to have a great time. There are several ways to cut travel costs. Some main costs that need to be cut are lodging, car rental and transportation, food and beverage, currency exchange, entertainment, and cigarettes and alcohol.

I wanted to stay close to the convention center as possible. The hotels in that area run between $150-300 per night. I could not justify spending that much since I did not plan on being there that much with the exception to sleep. Also, when you stay at a hotel you have costs such as tips to bell boys, cleaning staff etc. I stayed at a hostel close to the convention center for around $29. A hostel is a dormitory. Everyone was friendly at the hostel. Also, I had an opportunity to meet new people. The bathroom was a shared bathroom but very clean. It was a good experience and saved me some travel expenses.

I could have driven to Toronto from Buffalo. However, there would be gas expenses, tolls, and parking fees. Parking is expensive in Toronto. Also, the streets in Toronto are congested with pedestrians, cars, bikes, and street cars.. I decided to take the Greyhound to Toronto for $32. Since I was close to the center of downtown, I was able to walk. Also, I saved money by not taking a taxi from the bus station. However, if you are going to walk from the bus station to the hostel you should bring luggage with a should strap and wheels. I could have taken the street car or subway around Toronto during my stay. However, I need the exercise and walked everywhere. You should make sure you have comfortable shoes if you plan on walking. The sidewalks and streets are suitable for walking,

Food costs can be expensive when you are traveling. It can be costly to go to restaurants. I ate at the convention one day. I brought power bars with me for snacks. I took advantage of the free pancake breakfast in the morning at the hostel. I could have purchased food at the grocery store across the street. The hostel had a kitchen that I could have used.. I ate mostly from the street vendors. There food was cheap, good and it was convenient.. If you wanted dessert for a low cost, there were Mr. Softy ice cream trucks all over the place. In order to save on beverages, I carried a collapsible bottle. I simply filled this up with tap water when I was thirsty.

When you travel to a foreign country, there is always a foreign currency issue. There is always a foreign currency conversion cost. I wanted to minimize this cost. I lost a penny by going to the hostel I stayed at for the currency in conversion instead of the bank but it was more convenient.. I did not convert that much there . I used a credit card to make my purchases whenever I had the opportunity. I called the credit card companies before I left to ask them about their currency conversion policies. The best one I could find was a currency with a 2% conversion cost. However, this was much more affordable then going to the Toronto and Buffalo banks for the exchange.

For entertainment I went to Eaton Centre, the Hockey Hall of Fame and China town. It does not cost anything to walk around Eaton Centre or China town. Also, you can eat at a discount in China town. The Hockey Hall of fame was relatively inexpensive. I spent about 6 hours there and I had my picture taken with The Stanley Cup.

You do not want to smoke or drink alcohol when you go to Toronto. It was $5.50 for a draft pint of beer at the hostel bar. I was told that is the normal bar price by a Toronto resident. I heard that cigarettes go for around $12 per pack. I do not know what the duty is on tobacco and alcohol. But you may want to consider bringing them with you on your trip to Canada.

I spent 3 days in Toronto. I had a great time and did not go broke doing so. Just because you travel on a budget does not mean that you can not have fun! I look forward to going back to Toronto for the film festival.

Early Grape Harvesting in Tuscany in 2007

The coming grape harvesting in Tuscany is said to be earlier than usual because of the high temperatures of last winter and spring. Experts state that most grapes will be ripe enough already in late August and the vintage 2007 will be memorable.

This is due to the warmth given by the sun to every single white and red grape early this year causing a quicker maturing process. As a consequence, some of the grapes are now so sweet that one can even already pick and eat them.

The grapes in the vineyards have already undergone a strict selection, after which only the best bunches are left hanging on the vines, whereas the imperfect ones have been cut and thrown to the ground to release their substances in the soil. In this way the grapes left can better absorb the sunlight and benefit from the rich mineral elements coming from the soil.

By now, farmers are quite happy and satisfied of both the quality and the quantity of the new coming wine production.

Unlike wine, the 2007 olive oil production is not particularly promising. Actually, farmers say that its quality is going to be excellent this year, but they are very disappointed about the quantity. Apparently there is shortage of olives on the branches but in fact this is something common. In agriculture it is well known that in suitable weather conditions the olive trees have a big number of olives in a given year and they are only able to supply a small quantity of extra virgin olive oil in the following one.

All that is to be seen when the harvesting of the grapes and of the olives will arrive. In the meantime both nature and the Tuscan skilful farmers are working to create high quality extra virgin olive oil and wines.
