The alternative is to wade through Faro's monthly market, which abounds in ceramics, leather goods, jewellery, and local antiques.

Faro Beach and Ria Formosa – Between the sea and the lagoon there is a scattering of sand dunes of varying sizes. Whereas in a typical overcrowded resort you would be hard-pressed to find a tiny spot on the beach to call your own, here you can claim your own little island of serenity. Ilha de Faro is one such island with restaurants and other tourist amenities. The Ria Formosa lagoon is home to some amazing wildlife, including pink flamingoes.
